Description
The Marine Corps War Memorial Graphite with Watercolor Overlay shown here is a representation of the statue located in Arlington, VA. The statue was created by Felix de Welden after the famous photo taken by Joe Rosenthal on Mount Suribachi in Iwo Jima, Japan, February 23, 1945. In it, Americans Michael Strank, Harlon Block, Hank Hansen, Franklin Sousle, Rene Gagnon, Ira Hays, Harold Schultz, and John Bradley raised the American Flag to provide hope to the men who survived the landing. It still serves as a beacon of hope to Marines world wide.
